First Century Models of Bodily Healing
and Their Socio-Rhetorical Transformation

I identify three models of bodily healing in the first century and show the characteristics of each in terms of the healer, the healing and the one healed, giving examples from the first century of each model. I then point to the socio-rhetorical "point" of texts in which these models can be found. Finally, I focus on the nature of the transformation of these models as we find it in select Synoptic Gospel texts.
