The
Final Journey: Sharon
Gray Siano
As a hospice nurse, Sharon Gray Siona is constantly encountering people whose views of death and dying are shaped by a rhetorical vision created by their social group. These views can include everything from, "No, we cannot tell mother she is dying from cancer; we must keep that fact from her at all costs" to "We want all possible measures used to keep him alive so that God can work His miracle of healing." She must work to help them create a new vision by suggesting ways in which they might chain out their social world to include acceptable, palatable ways of dying and help their loved ones cope with dying. This essay will describe this rhetorical process of revisioning.
